IMG_6118Many of the boys were sent to Lyman for acts such as truancy, stubbornness, or for just being unwanted children. The boys received little or no education. Seven and eight year old’s were mixed in with some of the hardened teenagers and were treated like their personal slaves. Albert DeSalvo a.k.a. Boston Strangler spent a good part of his youth at Lyman.

I realize this is a bit old but, I spent more years at Lyman than most, actually held the record. So much misinformation.

    Is the building still standing?

  4. how recent are these?

  5. I would like to discuss obtaining rights to a few of your photos for a documentary we are doing that discusses the Lyman School. Can we start an email correspondence?

  6. John Fredette says:

I was sent to Lyman school back in 64 and again in 66 for being a stubborn child. My so called father use to physically abuse me and the police would do nothing. So I would run away to my grandmother’s house and than get caught by the police and get brought back so my father could beat me again. What a life.
